ITC Manufacturing: Leaders in Wire Mesh Decking

July Spotlight

Juan Hughes

Production Coordinator, Phoenix Plant

Juan Hughes has been with ITC since 2001 and is extremely knowledgeable of the technical inner workings of the plant machines. He has traveled to Ohio numerous times to provide training to members of the Columbus team and was there as recently as this month. He does whatever it takes to get the job done, including coming in on a Sunday if needed.

As a side, fun fact, Juan has played on a semi-professional baseball team in Mexico, the Bandits, for the past three years and has competed in many championships, including two World Series. Juan has been playing baseball since he was a little kid and continues to play as a way of staying active outside of work.

“I would like to say thank you for this appreciation,” said Hughes. “I feel honored to be spotlight employee of the month. I am a person that likes to commit to my work. I like to train others in the work that I know and I appreciate the recognition of my hard work.”

Thank you, Juan, for your hard work and dedication!

4 Things You Should Know about ITC’s Columbus Plant

Location, Location, Location

When ITC decided to expand its wire mesh and steel company to the east coast in 2008, there were a handful of locations to choose from but one stood out the most. Columbus, Ohio was chosen because of its prime location, with only a day drive from the east coast to Kansas and Tennessee. Not only was it for a perfect location but for the great incentives the state of Ohio and city of Columbus offered.

Quality for Quantity

Due to the economic downturn that was still being felt in 2010, ITC was able to secure 667,000 square feet of building for a low-cost, allowing the company to more heavily invest in upgrades and modernization.

Incredible Infrastructure

With the low-cost spending on the building, ITC spent over $7M renovating the facilities. The state-of-the-art building is laid out perfect for process flow and now produces as many tons as the Phoenix plant while only utilizing 40 percent of the building.

Employee Morale

ITC is proud to have employed more than 100 employees at the Columbus plant. With a whole lot of heart and drive, the ITC family is what makes the Columbus plant and ITC Manufacturing the best industry leading manufacturer of wire mesh and steel products.

Manufacturing is a vital sector in the workforce today. It helps drive the economy and create jobs for millions around the country. As of March 2017, 12.4 million people have been employed in U.S. manufacturing and it continues to rise as we stick to the fundamentals our country was built upon.

According to the National Association of Manufacturers State Manufacturing Data report, below are a few interesting stats from 2016 that illustrate the progression in Arizona and Ohio manufacturing.

2016 Arizona Manufacturing:

  1. Manufacturing output: 8.10%

2016 Ohio Manufacturing:

With two plants based on both sides of the country, one on the west coast and one in the mid-west, we at ITC are dedicated to keeping the momentum going that drives our company to be the best it can be.

Licensed to Grill

Did someone say cookout?! Last Saturday, thirty-eight Columbus employees, including managers, coordinators, leads and their families came together to kick off the summer with some good ole’ home-style BBQ. Everyone enjoyed a BBQ cookout, grilled by pit master and CEO Faruk Gole while playing in volleyball, corn hole, badminton and dart tournaments. It was a wonderful day spent together as an ITC family and we look forward to more this summer!

Thanks to all those who came out!

ITC’s Focus on Quality Control Increases Performance, Reduces Waste and Saves Jobs

ITC’s Focus on Quality Control Increases Performance, Reduces Waste and Saves Jobs

Phoenix, Arizona – June 12, 2017 – International Technical Coatings (ITC) expands its quality control process to increase performance and reduce waste in its manufacturing plants in Phoenix and Columbus, Ohio.  With a focus on improvements across its entire manufacturing process, ITC has retained jobs, eliminated unnecessary procedures and made the opinions and experience of their associates the central benchmark in this successful process. As a result, the company decreased manpower from three 8 hour shifts, M-F to two 10 hour shifts, M-Th, increased productivity by almost ten percent, and eliminated waste by 0.7 percent.

“In June 2015, ITC hired Cynthia Iwasaki, corporate quality assurance manager, to help us further understand where processes could be streamlined or improved to reduce scrap, empower the workforce and facilitate continuous improvements,” said Faruk Gole, president and CEO of ITC.  “With the direction of Mrs. Iwasaki and feedback from associates, ITC’s recently implemented quality program is structured, yet flexible to support evolving industry demands while adhering to recognized industry standards.”

Gole continued, “the key our program is to involve workforce feedback at each stage of development and implementation, which has resulted in an evolving positive culture change without the resistance that usually accompanies change in management programs. ITC has updated documentation and organized work stations, and has taken the time to ask associates what they like and what they don’t.”

In implementing this workforce empowerment concept, the changes have given associates a new sense of confidence in their work and pride in their work spaces. This program is working because the changes are not dictated; rather they are a collaborative effort.
