SUMMARY

Machine Operators shoulder the responsibility of setting up the machine though their basic job is to operate them. They have to operate different types of machines including: drill presses, printing machines, lathes, milling machines, planing machines, turning machines and grinding machines. In addition to operating machines, handling materials, and use of other assigned tools, Machine Operator must ensure a safe and clean environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform repetitive jobs on machines.
  2. Monitor machines constantly.
  3. May have to operate the machine control system varying various parameters.
  4. Vary inputs or tooling to produce different products from the same machine.
  5. Repair minor machines errors.
  6. Operate several machines simultaneously.
  7. Ability to enter number of items produced by the machine every hour or in a shift,

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Knowledge of different types of machines and tools used in them.
  2. Quality of inputs and their bearing on the machine as well as the final product.
  3. Good with math and computers.
  4. Precision in tasks such as cutting, setting and tuning, etc.
  5. Alertness in detecting any deviation in the functioning of the machine.
  6. Awareness about safety issues and alertness to avoid any mishap.
  7. Understand and follows safety procedures such as wearing all protective gear when necessary.
  8. Must be able to use a micrometer, and a tape measure.
  9. Heavy lifting (up to 60 pounds), bending, and stooping might be required.
  10. Punctuality a must.
  11. High school diploma is required.
  12. Vocational diploma or degree in machine operator is preferred.
